Baby shorts.

My manager at work goes on maternity leave this week, so I thought I would have a go at making her a pair of little shorts for her soon-to-arrive baby girl. I found the pattern on Nicolle's Originals blog (has lots of original ideas for kiddies things and patterns) and the shorts pattern was free to download .

I made the shorts from some fabric I bought of eBay a while back, and I think they turned out super cute!

Kudos needs to go out to my dear sister-in-law too as I used her idea of sewing the label on the outside of the shorts instead of the inside.

If you would love a pair of shorts similar to these, but do not have the time to make them yourself, then check out Ally's Etsy shop MavisandFrank and see her cute range of original design baby shorts made from Liberty of London fabrics (psst Ally also does custom orders if you have any special requests!).

  1. These shorts are so cute! You have very good taste in fabric.

Re. the question you left on my blog about what I use to trace vintage sewing patterns, I use Swedish tracing paper, which is sewable, so a great way of preserving the original pattern and making a muslin at the same time! I just googled "swedish tracing paper australia" and it looks like you can buy it by the roll on ebay.

    Hope this helps!

  5. Thanks Cheryl! Like I said, I totally borrowed that idea from Ally :-)

Ally, I laughed when I read your post - you wouldn't by any chance have purchased that pattern from spotlight? I went there ages ago and spent hours looking through all their pattern books from PJ's (99% of patterns were so ugly) and came across the mens one! Now I know you used it I can email you some questions about it, as it did not work 100%! X

  6. Hi, I came across your blog post in my desperate search for this exact fabric! I only need a small piece, and can't find it anywhere. If you have any left after making these divine shorts, and you're willing to part with it, even scraps ( I need 7 pieces 10cm x 15cm), or if you know where I can buy this fabric, please email me at helene [at] 25reasons [dot] net. Forever grateful, Helene
