Simplicity 5034 - epic fail.

This pattern looked so promising. A back-to-front wrap style dress with a high neckline and tied waist. I chose to make view 4 as I liked the shorter length of the skirt and the fact there were no sleeves.

Simple I thought. Simplicity.

Oh... no...

~ Front View ~

See, I hated it so much I didn't even hem it (and Mill, you know how much I looove hemming)! The skirt was created using a mismatched combination of darts and pleats, which just added bulk to parts of the dress where I really didn't want it.

~ I did love the contrast bias binding ~

~ Side View ~

Can you see that? The terrible gaping at the back of this dress. I tried re-stitching and re-fitting but it just wouldn't stay down. Perhaps my back is shaped wrong...

~ Back View ... I don't need to say a word.. ~

You win some. You lose some.

  1. Bummer - I struggled with this one, but persevered as I made it with Liberty! My facings gaped a little but I stitched them down. I have to stand with very good posture and the ties firm to keep the gaping to a minimum.

  2. What a shame. I used to sew a lot of my own clothes and things like that happened to me a lot, unfortunately. The fabric is so pretty. Can you make it into just a skirt at least? Such a shame to waste, but I guess you could keep it for a quilt :0)
