A change.

I have not been feeling 100% in my tummy these last few months. Last week I (finally) went and saw a doctor. The recommendation was that I try an elimination diet, and seeing that I already exclude dairy from my diet due to a lactose intolerance, gluten was the next on the doctors list.

I began my lactose/gluten free diet a week ago, and boy do I feel a zillion times better! My pain and... um... 'discomfort' disappeared literally overnight, and I think I had forgotten what it was like to have a normal feeling tummy! I went back for a review yesterday and the doctor was happy with the change and has recommended I maintain a gluten-free diet long term. He also said that apparently lactose intolerance is a symptom of gluten intolerance. It would have been helpful to know that last year! :-P

Ok, so that is probably too much personal body information for one blog post! But it does have relevance. Now I am gluten-free my love of baking, and carbohydrates in general, are under close review... anyone who knows of any great gluten-free recipes or websites?

And in case I was to forget that this is a swewing blog after all, here is a sneak peak to see what I was up to on the weekend...

I made View 2 from a sheer printed black fabric, and it turned out very nicely!

I will take photos tomorrow.

  2. I follow a blog called 'A Girls' Guide to Gluten Free Baking', or something similar, which has loads of yummy looking recipes. I am not gluten-free myself but have friends who are, and I find that with a bit of trial and error it is possible to get most recipes working with gluten-free flour. The tip is often to add more liquid, for example egg. Here in England there are quite a lot of gluten-free products available from supermarkets, but I don't know what it is like elsewhere x

  5. My aunt is both lactose and gluten intolerant, but she makes the BEST pizzas ever. I'm not usually a pizza fan, but I think it's all about loads of fresh toppings to hide the gluten free base. My favourite one she mades is spinach, fruit chutney, rosemary and lamb.

  6. Good to hear you've solved the problem. There's a lot of gluten free stuff around, and many different gluten free flours so your baking shouldn't suffer too much. There's plenty of gluten free pasta and stuff too (made of corn and rice). I have a friend that has a ridiculously long list of stuff that he can't eat so i'm always on the look-out for "free from" stuff. It's surprising how much there is around.
